Mexican radio carries one of the strongest domestic music sectors anywhere. Ranchera and banda occupy the cultural position that country music does in the United States, and regional Mexican formats, which vary substantially by state, have no real equivalent elsewhere.
Alongside that sits a large commercial pop and rock sector, and a growing electronic scene concentrated in Mexico City and Guadalajara. Spanish-language rock, rock en espanol, has its own canon dating to the eighties that gets almost no airplay outside Latin America.
Mexican stations in this directory are a mix of licensed broadcasters streaming their over-the-air service and internet-only operations. The first group is the more interesting one if you want local news and advertising alongside the music.
